SHANNON PATERSON REAGAN
Writing is connection.
It’s connecting words to create paragraphs. Connecting paragraphs into a story. Connecting with the reader to turn ideas into action.
Writing to create connections is at the core of every piece I produce. Whether it’s a personal profile, plain-language explanation of a complex medical diagnosis, or website copy that compels the reader to take action, my goal is to create a visceral reaction in the reader that inspires action.
WRITING IS ALCHEMY.
There’s something magical about the power of words to evoke feelings and inspire action. I’ve been addicted to creating this special kind of magic for as long as I can remember.
From crafting marketing materials to writing long-form journalism, the end goal is always the same: connect with the audience.
I’ve written about a wide range of topics for a number of different audiences and clients. I wrote about the various types of psychology degrees available to those looking for a career in the field. I wrote about a stage of breast cancer known as DCIS, which is typically no threat to a woman's health, but harbors a mysterious ability to transform itself into something more extreme and invasive. I wrote about my search for “Oreo” cows across southern Idaho pastures and whether they actually exist. I wrote about a rare, genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis which can cause tumors to grow on nerves anywhere in the body. I wrote about dozens of Idaho citizens who were awarded accolades for their career accomplishments and contributions to our state. I started a blog about healthy eating, parenting pitfalls and funny typos. The list is long and diverse, and each assignment brought new opportunities to learn and connect.
I once heard reading described as staring at a dead piece of wood for hours and hallucinating. These days, reading is more like staring at a polarized piece of glass and hallucinating, but the idea remains the same.
Isn't it incredible how marks on the page or screen can inform, educate, inspire, and motivate?
I am always seeking more opportunities to wield the magic of storytelling. Have a a project or pitch for me? Let's talk.
